Georgia Mae Gray, 86, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011. She was born in Johnson City and was a graduate of Science Hill High School. Georgia worked for Dr. C.A. Renfro for 23 years, during which time she received her LPN training. She was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. However, her greatest accomplishments were as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Byrd Gray and parents, W.H. and Gladys Shirley.
Georgia is survived by four children; Diana Baird and husband Leon of Atlanta, GA, Julia Cunningham and husband Dana of Kingsport, Linda Woods and husband Bob of Gastonia, NC, and Beverly Gray of Marion, VA and Tim McMillan of Bristol, VA, three grandchildren; Cresta Phillips, Robbie Woods and Matthew Woods, six great-grandchildren; Will, Jacob, Caleb, Jonathan, Ethan and Andrew, grand goddaughter; Lauren Helton of Wytheville, VA, brother; Charles Shirley and wife Lois of Wake Forest, NC and their children, Luana, Mark, Susan and Beth, sister; Norma Garland of Johnson City, TN.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 2-3:30 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport or anytime at the home. Services will follow at 3:30 with Pastor Bryan Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Fordtown Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Leon Baird, Dana Cunningham, Bob Woods, Robbie Woods, Matthew Woods, Chad Phillips and Tim McMillan.
