Virginia Elizabeth "Ginger" Larkey, 50, died October 20, 2012, of pancreatic cancer. Born in Kingsport, she lived five early years in Pittsburgh, PA, and was raised in Marietta, GA. She moved with her family back to southwest Virginia in 1997. She was a graduate of George Walton High School in Marietta, GA and attended Montreat-Anderson College in Montreat, NC aka Montreat College. She worked as a paraprofessional in Cobb County, GA school system, in child and elder care. Her passion was using her photography and poetry to create calendars, note cards and other graphics under the name, Visionary Artistry. She was an avid advocate and volunteer for persons with disabilities. Ginger was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ben G. Larkey in 2010; grandparents, Engle W. and Dorothy C. McMurray; grandmother, Mabel Carter Larkey; grandfather, Fred Larkey and wife, Eula.

Ginger is survived by her mother, Ann McMurray Larkey of Hiltons, VA; brother, David Andrew Larkey of Hiltons VA; uncle Hugh C. Larkey and wife, Mary of Athens, GA; aunt, Harriet Larkey Phlegar and husband, Bob of Signal Mtn., TN; her McMurray uncles and aunts, Bill and Jean of Shelbyville, KY, Darrel and Pam of Hiltons, VA, Carl and Linda of Damascus, VA, Wade and Sandy of Hiltons and Kingsport, Daniel and Susie of Weber City, Greg and Mary of Hiltons; several cousins; and special longtime friends, Donna Hutcheson and Joyce Ketchie-Carr of Marietta, GA.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 22, from 4-6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. A family graveside service will be Tuesday, October 23, at 4:00 pm at the Carter Family Cemetery in Hiltons, VA. A memorial service will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m., 100 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN, with Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle and the Rev. Sharon H. Amstutz officiating. Eulogies will be given by Mr. Richard Bagley and Mr. Timothy Bridges.

In lieu of flowers, Ginger chose the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Rd., Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601 and the American Heart Association, 3101 Browns Mill Rd., #6, Johnson City, TN 37604, as charities to which memorial contributions may be made, as well as the church or charity of one's choice.
