G.K. "Kay" Steadman

G.K. "Kay" Steadman, 90, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

He was born in Kingsport and lived in East Tennessee all of his life. He was a 1949 graduate of Lynn View High School where he played basketball and baseball. He also played minor league baseball for a time, where he had the ability of pitching with either hand. He was a member of the Brown Springs Baptist Church.

Kay farmed all of his life and came from a family of dairy and agriculture. Before Stone Drive was established, his family farmed their land from the Skate Inn all the way to Mason-Dixon trucking. In 1961, they moved to Whitesburg where he and his brother farmed until 1990 when they moved to Mosheim. They then moved to Church Hill in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 ½ years, Janice Steadman; parents, George and Myrtle Steadman; six brothers, Howard, Harry, Lee, Bill, Ron, and Carl Steadman; and one sister, Carrie Laroy.

Kay is survived by two daughters, Mary Steadman of Church Hill, and Janet Steiner and husband Joe of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren, Jeremy Steadman and fiancé Candace Gent, Rachel Steiner Bjork and husband Ben, and Bridgette Steiner; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Bill and Katherine Smith and Wanda and Marshall Smith

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Rev. Larry Parrott and Rev. Richard Long officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those planning to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15am to follow in procession.

Pallbearers will be George Steadman, Roy Early, Barry Steadman, Johnny Odle, Jimmy Tatum, and Mike Steadman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Steadman, Kirk Loudy, Pat Steadman and Danny Steadman.
