Gladys Crawford, 94, passed peacefully and went to be with her Lord and savior on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in Conway, SC. Born on June 17, 1918 in Sullivan County, she resided in Kingsport the majority of her life. Mrs. Crawford was a faithful servant of the Lord and enriched many lives in her family, church and community. She loved cooking, canning, quilting, crafts and gardening and seemed to be an expert in all she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Susan Lawson; her first husband, George Wilson Harmon, Sr.; second husband, Rev. Dana Crawford; brother, Dewey Lawson, Jr.; three sisters, Marie Garner, Lucy Martin, and Patsy Hensley; infant daughter, Frances Harmon; and son, George W. Harmon, Jr.
Lovingly known as "Nanny", she is survived by three daughters, Betty Parks of Georgetown, TX, Trula Cross of Kingsport, TN, and Barbara Billy Burroughs of Conway, SC; nine grandchildren, Steve Patti Cross of Jackson, MS, Cheryl Cross, Jonathan Tammy Cross and Susan Cross, all of Kingsport, Holly White Duffield. VA; Misty Blue Harmon, Etowah, TN; Daniel and Wayna Burroughs, Conway, SC ;and Angela Parks; Georgetown, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. The family is requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. for the procession to Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jonathon, Brandon and Nicholas Cross, Matthew and Andrew Carter, and Nick Burroughs. Honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Burroughs.
