Gladys Butcher Holcomb, 82 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Thursday, October 3, 2007 in Summersville, W VA due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was involved in many ministries, including the Angel Tree Party and as a food group leader. Her greatest ministry was as the director of the library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Holcomb and in the same accident, daughter-in-law, Mary Holcomb.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Rita Holcomb of Sanford, FL, Kenneth Holcomb of Flatwood, West Virginia, David and Diane Holcomb of Kingsport; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Violet Thomas of Ocala, FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Fay Butcher, Gordon and Lois Butcher, all of Sanford, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oak Grove Baptist Church or anytime at the home of David and Diane Holcomb.
Services will follow at 8 p.m. Monday at the church with Dr. Randy Pressnell officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
