Gladys Hudson Roberts, our beloved aunt, passed to her eternal home on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Indian Path Medical Center. Gladys was the last child of the late Henry J. and Cynthia Freeman Hudson. She was born July 27, 1924, and raised in Kingsport. Gladys worked in Maryland during World War II in an airplane factory and upon returning home, was hired by Eastman Kodak, retiring after forty years and eight months of service. She took great pride in telling everyone how long she worked. Gladys was a five year resident at Preston Place II, where she was dearly loved and loved them in return. Before dementia, she had been an avid reader and loved to travel. She never lost her sense of humor. Gladys loved life and laughter. She was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church where she loved going to Sunday School, church service, and Bible study.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Roberts; and all of her siblings and their spouses, Hubert Hudson (Lois), Kelly Hudson (Elsie), Clara Hudson Carter (Henry), Margaret Hudson Carter (Garland); three little brothers, Howard, Wilbur, and Clarence; and two nieces and six nephews, Dorothy Carter Goins, Janice Carter Callahan, Donald Hudson, Kenneth Carter, Glen Carter, Ronnie Carter, Larry Hudson, and Allen Hudson.
Surviving and cherishing memories of Gladys are nieces, Arlene Carter Bishop of Greenville, SC, Phyllis Carter Lane, Ann Hudson Ellis, Doris Hudson LaForce, all of Kingsport, Linda Hudson Blevins of Unicoi, and Joy Carter Baker of Blountville; nephews, Harold Hudson, Earl Hudson, and Bob Carter, all of Kingsport; and several great and great-great nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Amos, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob Carter, Harold Hudson, Pete LaForce, Greg Walters, Eddie Loudermilk, and Jim Baker.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful management and staff at Preston Place II for their tender care, love and respect for Aunt Gladys. Also, thank you to the 5th floor staff of Indian Path Medical Center for their kindness and care during her last three days.
