Glen Rhea Shoemaker, 47, of Kingsport, died Wednesday evening, April 17, 2013, at Indian Path Medical Center following complications from an apparent heart attack. Born in Kingsport and raised in Hawkins County, he had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Glen was a 1984 graduate of Volunteer High School. He was presently employed at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center as an operations manager where he had worked for several years. Glen really enjoyed his work and the people he worked with at HVMC. He was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, volunteered with Contact Concern and with Lincoln Elementary School as a reader. Glen was an avid NASCAR fan, a huge New York Giants and University of Tennessee fan, and loved going to see the Avett Brothers concerts.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Glenn and Christine Bledsoe, and paternal grandparents, Rhea and Juanita Shoemaker.
Glen is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jamie McDaniel Shoemaker of the home; daughters, Saraya and Chandler Shoemaker of the home; parents, Terry and Darlene Shoemaker of Mt. Carmel; mother-in-law, Doris McDaniel of Big Stone Gap, VA; sister, Katrina Hunley and husband, Kenny of Church Hill; sister-in-law, Jody Murphy and husband, Ed of Chilhowie, VA; nephews, Kent and Cody Hunley; nieces, Kristen and Shelby Murphy; special cousin, Colton Kilgore; aunts and uncles, John Shoemaker and wife, Darlene, Patti Grills and husband, Tony, Penny Bailey and husband, Henry, Glenn Bledsoe and wife, Diane, Lyle Bledsoe and wife, Janice, and Donna Ford and husband, David; and many cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Mickey Rainwater and Rev. Will Lauderback officiating. The eulogy will be by Mike Butcher. Visitation will follow the funeral service in the Fellowship Hall.
A family graveside service will be conducted on Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
