Glenn Henry Milhorn

Glenn Henry Milhorn, 92, of Kingsport, a submarine veteran, entered into eternal patrol on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Glenn was born on January 7. He was a self proclaimed 1924 model, born to Fannie Mae Kilgore Milhorn and Samuel G Milhorn who he lovingly described as "wonderful parents." Sam worked at Eastman and started a family legacy with the company that still runs strong four generations through. Glenn spent his life in Kingsport until he served our country as a submariner in WWII on the USS Gurnard. He graduated from Dobyns Bennett and earned a Bachelors degree at ETSU. He followed in his father's footsteps and was employed at TN Eastman Company.

If you knew Glenn, he was most likely your favorite of whatever role he served in your life. If you didn't get to meet him, you'd most certainly wish you had. His best friend and wife of 68 years, Jemima Milhorn was his most trusted companion and a "real jewel". He was a proud submarine veteran and spoke about his service providing a glimpse of history unlike any other. You can only imagine the mutual adoration between Glenn his family.

The loved ones, gone before him include his parents, his two sisters Edith Milhorn Duncan (husband Bill), and Wanda Milhorn Nottingham, his baby brother Clint Milhorn, his submarine captain, RAdm Charles H. Andrews USN (Ret) and many dear friends, family members and fellow submariners.

Cherishing the gift of his life, he will be terribly missed by: His wife, Jemima Jenkins Milhorn, his son Steven Milhorn and wife Nancy, his daughter Carol Duncan, his grandchildren; Brandon and Kirsten Milhorn, Alyse and Jason Mesusan, Lindsay King Zirkle and Jason Newton, Brinson Milhorn and Jamie Mains, and Jackson Duncan. His 7 great grandchildren Andrew and Nathan Milhorn, Bailen, Brylee, and Briell Mesusan, Chase Newton, and Miles Milhorn, (as well as one on the way) will carry on the legacy he began. His nieces and nephews as well as his cousins will miss him dearly.

Services to honor his life will be held on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 with memorial service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Submarine Veterans Charitable Foundation at www.ussvi.org or by mail to: United States Submarine Veterans, 3100 Bucklin Hill Road, PO Box 3870, Silverdale, WA 98383. 360-337-2978.
