Glenna "Sue" Nelson, 67, of Kingsport, went home to be with her Heavenly Father following a lengthy illness, November 29, 2014, at her home. Born in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Forest and Fannie Regina Cole Bell.
Sue grew up in Memphis and graduated from Ripley High School in 1965. Soon after graduation she moved to Kingsport where she met her sweetheart, Ralph. She was an avid sports fan and was very active in team sports when her children were growing up and even now as her boys coach leagues of their own. She was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church for about 30 years. With all of Sue's interests and memberships her family and community were what meant the most to her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Ollie, Marie, Christine, and Flonnie and three brothers, Eldon, Garvin, and James.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Ralph Nelson, Sr., of the home; three daughters, Romona Dales and husband Dave of Ohio, Ruth Ann Nelson, and Amelia Caldwell; three sons, Scott Nelson and wife Audrea, Ralph Nelson, Jr. and wife Christy, and Anthony Nelson, all of Kingsport; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Morten and Joyce Baskin; brother, Don Bell; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Susan Light.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, December 4, 2014, 4-6:00pm, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport with services following at 6:00pm and Rev. David Luster officiating. Graveside services will be conducted, Friday, December 5, 2014, 10:45am, at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
