Grace Blackburn
Beloved lifetime resident of Kingsport, Grace Hickam Blackburn, 94, died peacefully at her home on Friday, October 26. Her quiet faith, love and devotion to family, friends, community, and her church, Arcadia United Methodist, will always be remembered, and greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clyde Blackburn; her parents, Melvin R. and Mary E. Ford Hickam; and eight siblings.
Surviving are her children, Doris Slagle and husband, Charles, of Newport News, VA, Robin Blackburn and wife, Laura, of Richmond, VA, and Marilyn Geckler and husband, Roger, of Columbia, SC. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Eric and Angela Slagle, Carrie McMahon, Will and Leslie Blackburn, Alisha and Jared Monroe, and Nicole Montgomery, and by her four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Arcadia United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlie Eberhart, Rev. Regina Shelton, and Rev. Grover Starnes officiating. Burial will immediately follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church, or to a charity of your choice.
