BOLD PRINT: Grace Cross Blalock
Grace Cross Blalock, 89, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Pearl Cross; her middle son, Larry; brothers, Willard, Fred, Howard, and Ralph Cross; and sisters, Ruby Warren, Sally Elsea, and Mattie Pearl Leonard.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, and aunt, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was blessed with good health, good friends, and an avid willingness to help others for many years. Grace was a member of Adams Chapel United Methodist Church for 62 years where she taught various Sunday School classes. Along with being a member of the United Methodist Women, she also was a 50-year member of Gunnings Home Demonstration Club and of Blountville/Border City Order of Eastern Star, where she held many local and state offices, and a member of the Farm Bureau Women, where she participated in Farm Day and many other educational projects.
She was also a lifetime member of the Holston P.T.A. Along with her various volunteer works, she still had time to supervise her sons in the day to day management of the family dairy farm.
Surviving are her loving husband of 69 years, D. Luck Blalock, Blountville; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Twalla Blalock, Kingsport; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Judy Blalock, Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Marian Blalock, Blountville; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Adams Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Millard J. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Gunnings Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren of Alfred and Pearl Cross and the grandchildren of Jack and Lola Blalock.
