She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Moorehouse; father, Reverend Charles L. Poulston and mother, Margaret Click Poulston.

Born Vola Grace Poulston on Nov. 28, 1915 in Clicktown in Hawkins County, she was raised in various communities in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia while her father served as a Methodist preacher. She graduated from Thomas Walker High School, then attended various institutions of higher learning, eventually achieving a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. During her time at Winthrop, she was instructed by Edwin Hughes, whose own teacher studied with Carl Czerny, who was a protégé of Beethoven.

Grace taught chorus and art at Gate City High School from 1956 to 1964, and also worked as a private piano instructor from her teen years well into her 80s. Her piano students included several members of the Carter family, including June Carter. They would take the train down from Endota to Hiltons, have their lesson, spend the night and then take the train home the next morning. Also active in her church, Grace served as choir director and organist at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church for nearly a quarter century.

Visitation for friends and family will be held at 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport. Funeral services will take place immediately thereafter, followed by a graveside service at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Virginia.
