BOLD PRINT: GRADY V. CORLEY
Grady V. Corley, 92, of Kingsport, TN, died Wednesday afternoon Sept. 24, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Greenwood, SC and lived in Kingsport since 1928. Mr. Corley retired ultimately as foreman in Fiber Divisions Maintenance from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1979 after forty-five years of service. He served in the U.S. Army as an artillery mechanic in the European Theatre during World War II.
Mr. Corley was a member of Mafair United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion. He enjoyed target shooting, auto racing especially stock car racing, classical music especially Italian opera, gardening, hiking in the mountains with his son, walking in Kingsport, and all things mechanical.
His parents, Earl and Dora Mills Corley, brothers, Julian, Gordon, and Fredie Corley; sisters, Barbara Wagner, and Martha Lawson preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-five years, Kathleen C. "Kat" Corley, of the home; son,
Dr. Larry Steven Corley and wife Stephanie, Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Kendall and Kelsey, Houston, TX; "daughter" Julie Smith, Kingsport, TN; sister, Edna Whiteley, San Diego, CA; brothers, Bob Corley and wife June, Kingsport, TN; and Jerry Corley and wife Burl, South Riding, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 1:30-3:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. John Bardsley officiating.
Graveside services will be Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
