G. Dayton Marshall, 71, 230 Fedderson St., Kingsport, TN, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He loved the Lord and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and past member of Way of Life Baptist Church. Mr. Marshall was faithfully employed for 46 years at Appalachian Orthopedic Associates as a X Ray tech and cast tech.
He was a loving husband, daddy, papaw, grand-papaw, brother, and a loving friend to all who knew him.
His father and mother, Dewey Marshall and Lillie Mae Marshall, sister, Betty Estep, brothers, Ralph Marchell and Herman Marshall, father-in-law, Guy Christian, special sister-in-law, Nellie Booker, and very special niece, Gail Hite preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, sweetheart, and friend of 48 years, Shirley Marshall; two daughters, Vanessa Mounger, and husband Alan, Florence, SC; Teresa Marshall and fianc Rocky Stacy, Kingsport, TN; son, Tony Marshall and wife Leann, Kingsport, TN: seven grandchildren, Brandon and Tyler Mounger, Shawn Dolan, Mark Ellis, Justin Marshall, Payton Marshall, and very special granddaughter, Jordan Marshall; two great-grandchildren, Cameron Dolan and Faith Marshall; four sisters, Lora Rush and husband Jim, Bristol, TN; Flora Holland and the late Horace Holland, Blountville, TN; Eloise Crawford and husband Wayne, Kingsport, TN; Ruth Hite and husband Carl, Kingsport, TN; four brothers, Verlin Marshall and wife Bobbie, Kingsport, TN; John Marshall and wife Adele, Kingsport, TN; Ronnie Marshall and wife Carolyn, Kingsport, TN; and Onnie Marshall and wife Janie, Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Geisla Marchell, Blountville, TN; mother-in-law, Bessie Christian, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Brenda Vaughn. A great friend Dr. Coy Fullen also his other family at Appalachian Orthopedic Associates: all employees and doctors, especially Dr. Robert Strang Sr., Dr. Mark Griffith, Dr. Jeffery France.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daryll Pierce, Dr. Stephen Cowen, Dr. Stephen Baumrucker, Dr. Michael Bookout, and a special thank you to all the nurses and staff of the 6th Floor at Wellmont HVMC. A special thank you to his grandson, Mark Ellis for sitting and being there for his papaw.
Calling hours are 4-8:00 p.m. Friday at Pleasant View Baptist Church with services to follow at 8:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Joseph Hill, Pastor Johnny Gibson, and Pastor Wayne Baker officiating, music will be provided by the Heavenly Way Trio. Also anyone may visit the home or the home of his daughter, Teresa, 237 Fedderson St. at any time.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Crawford, Alan Mounger, Rocky Stacy, Justin Marshall, Shawn Dolan, and Brandon Mounger. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Ellis, Tyler Mounger, Payton Marshall, Clyde Boggs, Terry Quensenberry, Wes Laughlin, and Wayne Larkins.
