Gunther H. Doerfert, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, surrounded by his family. Mr. Doerfert, a cum laude graduate of Heidelburg University, retired from Eastman Kodak after 39 years of service. He later directed the Safe Driving Program for AARP in the Southeast for 14 years, consulted with the Executive Service Corps, including a 4 month tour in Mexico, was a loyal member of Kiwanis for decades, and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Carolyn; daughter, Kirsten Doerfert in Connecticut; son, Fredrick Bailey III (Rachel) and grandson, Fredrick Bailey IV in Colorado; nieces and nephews, Diana, Anne, Karen, and Peter; and brothers-in-law, Dr. Malcolm MacNab in Massachusetts and Col. Craig MacNab in Indiana.
Special thanks to the Staff of Baysmont Nursing Home and especially to Mrs. Angie Crawford (Billy) who lovingly cared for Gunther for a year and a half.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and services will be held for family out of state at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bridge Home No Kill Animal Adoption Center, 2061 Highway 75, Blountville, TN 37617, or to First Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
