Gwendolyn Hensley Hughes

Gwendolyn Hensley Hughes, 81, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 20, 2014 unexpectedly at her home.

She had lived most of her life in the Harmony Community. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker all of her life and enjoyed collecting cookbooks, canning, and cooking. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Hensley and Viola Overbay Hensley; daughter, Barbara Hughes; and sister, Ella Mae Hensley Cradic.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of 65 years, Johnnie B. Hughes; daughter, Phyllis Hughes Wilmoth and husband Jim, Kingsport; son, Roger Hughes and wife Karen, Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Brooke Phillippe and husband Jonathan of Gray, Adam Hughes and wife Ginger of Jonesborough, and Bobby Dickerson of Chuckey; three great-grandchildren, Alex and Austin Hughes and James Phillippe; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to their neighbors for their care and concern.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Services will follow at 3 p.m. in the Fall Branch Chapel with Rev. Dwight Hobbs officiating.

Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Joe Mitchell, Blaine Mitchell, Adam Hughes, Dayton Luster, Kelly Mitchell and Jim Wilmoth.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Hughes, Jerry Hughes, Brian Mitchell and Truman Luster.
