On Monday, October 2, 2017, H. Greg Hensley, 69, Blountville, completed his final project and went to be with the Lord. Greg will be forever remembered by those who knew him for his dry wit and sense of humor, along with the love he had for his family and friends. Born in Erwin, TN, he spent his life in the Kingsport area. He led a life of adventure, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, one as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and another with the 109th. Always someone who was heavily involved in the community, Greg worked with the Kingsport Times News as a reporter, and was a huge advocate of animal rights, leading to a long relationship with the Humane Society. He was the owner of Tri-City Grading for nearly a quarter of a century, and was the contractor on many of the city's major commercial developments over that time. A huge fan of racing, he was able to field a race car team himself, which allowed him to be right in the thick of things...exactly how he liked it. Greg was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry (R.H.) and Beverly Hensley, and son, Jason Hensley.
Greg is survived by his wife, and best friend, of 49 years, Carol Hensley; son, Jessie Hensley and wife, Amanda of Kingsport; daughter, Amie Green and husband, Shawn, of Blountville; sister, Sandy Lingerfelt; unofficial adopted daughter, Sherry Sisk; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at their home on Wednesday, October 4, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport on Thursday, October 5, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Larry Wiley officiating.
Graveside services will be held Friday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by The American Legion Posts 3/265.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Greg to F.R.A.N.K. (Feline Rescue and No Kill), 285 Rock Springs Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663.
