H. Eugene Hooker

H. Eugene Hooker, 80, of Kingsport, went peacefully to be with the Lord at Wellmont Hospice May 15, 2013, after an extended illness. He was born in Hiltons, Virginia on Jan 5th, 1933. After graduating from high school, he entered the U. S. Navy, and served for 2 years. Following his discharge, he began working for Eastman Kodak Company and worked there until his retirement in July 1993.

Eugene was a loving and gentle husband, father, and grandfather. He was a Christian servant, faithfully serving Litz Manor Baptist Church as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and in many other ways. He loved his family and spending time with them, working and being outdoors, camping, and serving others by working to repair things.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Opal Hooker, and his brother Oscar.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Eleanor (Foster) Hooker; children and their spouses: Jeffrey and Sharon Hooker, Jill and John Cook, and Joel and Judy Hooker; beloved grandchildren: Morgan Sneed and her husband Jon, Matthew Hooker, Bradley, Jackson, and Kathleen Cook, and Abigail Hooker. Also surviving are his sisters, Iva Nell Milburn, Phyllis (Fred) McCamy, Edna (David) Quillen, and Linda (Jim) Vicars, sister-in-law Wanda Hashe, and special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Litz Manor Baptist Church on Saturday, May 18th, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, immediately followed by a memorial service in celebration of his life. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank many friends, family, and the caregivers at Wellmont Hospice for their support through this difficult time. Memorial contributions may be made to Litz Manor Baptist Church, 1383 Dewey Avenue Kingsport, TN, 37664.
