Harold Fain Brown, 73, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at his home in Stanley Valley, VA, following a long illness of Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia.
Mr. Brown was born November 5, 1938 in Hawkins County-- about one mile from where he died.
Harold graduated from Lincoln Memorial University with a B. S. in Math and Physics. In 1960 he married Gay Bowman Brown. He was employed at Eastman Chemical for 34 years, retiring as a senior physicist. He was an avid farmer for as long as his health allowed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sidney and Rosa Ilena Brown; and two brothers, Billy Wayne and James Sidney Brown, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 51 years, Gay Bowman Brown; two daughters, Lesa G. Brown, and Pamela R. Brown; one grandson, Don Roger Grigg, II; a brother, Darrell V. Brown; two sisters, Bonnie Brown Myers and husband J. William, and Carol Brown Hunt and husband Eddie; several cousinsa"especially Lawrence Shoemaker and wife Betty, Mary Lou Testerman, and O. Brown Overbay and wife Kaye; and many nephews and nieces.
Harold's wish was to stay at home, where a room was built so that he could see his farm and enjoy the animals. This was possible due to the 24/7 care of several special caregivers. The family would like to extend a special word of thanks to these very special people who helped with his care: Barbara Bass; Brenda, Farrell, and Cody Swanner; Mary Fansler; Mary Dougherty; Larry Byington; Alisha Butler; and especially David Culbertson for all his assistance and love in so many ways.
The family will receive friends Monday May 14, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport or anytime at the home. Funeral services will follow the visitation in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Rader officiating.
Graveside services will be Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be Wayne McGee, Walter Carter, James S. A. Brown, III, Randy Williams, Guy Sanders, and Jack Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Darnell, Lawrence Shoemaker, Brown Overbay, and Wayne Arnold.
