Harold Dillinger Curtis

Harold D. Curtis, 82, of Piney Flats, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008 after a brief illness.

Born in Hiltons, VA, he spent most of his life in Virginia and Tennessee and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High where he was a drum major. He attended East Tennessee State University. Harold was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II on the USS Robinson Destroyer Escort. He retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring Harold and Sharron started a catering service called Curtis' Cookins, which served Pork Skins and Funnel Cakes, and lasted for 23 years.

Harold enjoyed country and blue grass music and like to play the guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Mayme Blackard Curtis; and two sisters, Eva Mae Curtis Gray and Hilda Curtis Young.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Sharron Elliott Curtis of the home; one daughter, Terrilyn Curtis Iles and husband Clinton T. Iles of Panama City Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and one special pet "Sugar".

Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Lay officiating. Music will be provided by Ron Allgood.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites by the American Legion Post 3/ 265 and the Tennessee National Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pal Barger, Donnie Adams, John Lovin, Hal Carmack, V. J. Beverly, James Hensley, J. Ed Waller, and Clinton T. Iles.
