H.M. Rogers passed away in his home on Friday, December the 4th of natural causes, with his wife by his side. He was 88 years old. Harold was born on February 13, 1927 in Claiborne County, TN and was raised in Bell County, KY. He attended and graduated from Middlesboro Public School. After graduation, Harold went into the military, and was a World War II Veteran. Harold attended Lincoln Memorial University on the GI bill and graduated in 1949 with Liberal Arts degree with a major in History. He opened his own Insurance Agency in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He then worked for Kemper Insurance in Mississippi. In 1956, Harold moved to Kingsport, TN and started the Rogers Insurance Agency. He ran the agency until he retired in 1998. Harold attended First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport, TN. Harold was a 3rd Degree Master Mason and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason. He was a Shrine member with the Jericho Shrine Temple, as well as a member of the American Legion. Harold loved history (especially World War II history), traveling, and playing bridge.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Ruby Nell Britton Rogers; his son Shelby Lynn Rogers; daughter, Evalia Jean Rogers Anderson; grandchildren, Heather Lynn Grindstaff, Maurice Manning Anderson III, and Elizabeth Rai Lodewijk; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8 at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
