Harrell "P.H." Carpenter, 84, of Fall Branch, departed this life on Monday, February 28, 2011 after an extended illness.
He was born to Parrott and Myrtle Harrell Carpenter on May 1, 1926 in Mooresburg, TN. Harrell accepted Christ as his savior on March 12, 2009 and was baptized at West View Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved to attend when able. He worked in Organic Chemicals at Eastman for 35 years, retiring in 1981. Harrell's hobbies and passions were: Indian motorcycles, NASCAR, his horses and mules and spending the fall/winters in Daytona Beach, FL. He will be remembered for his laughter and ability to tell stories.
Harrell was preceded in death by his wives, Bertha Edens Carpenter mother of his children, Dorothy Pearson Carpenter, Marie Sutherland Carpenter; sisters, Marie Gordon, Dorothy Ross and son-in-law Ernie Pattenson.
He leaves behind his four daughters, Phyllis Patterson, Lois Jenkins, Jerry Riddle and Jan Carpenter all of Kingsport; sister Jean Christian of Jacksonville, FL; brother Ronnie Carpenter of Morristown, TN; grandchildren, Ragan Riddle, Jed Patterson and wife, Shawna of Kingsport, Darla Patterson of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, D.J. Jones, Haley Rhodes, Amari Ashley; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Rex Trent, Johnny Dickerson, Monroe Williams, Rev. Mike Stout, Don Wolfe and Jim Morrison.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 pm on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The service will begin at 7:30 pm with Pastor Mike Stout, Rev. Victor Wallace and Rev. Eckel Herron officiating.
Graveside services will begin at 11 am Saturday at Oak Glen Community Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jason Brazee, Dr. Marco DaSilva and Dr. Edward Fore for caring for Harrell during his illness.
