Harriet Heller, 98, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Mrs. Heller was the wife of Joseph Heller (predeceased), the owner of Joseph's Musicenter, a mainstay on Broad Street for over 65 years. Mrs. Heller was born in Long Island, New York, September 18, 1919, the daughter of Dr. Samual Streim and Mary Streim (predeceased) of Astoria, New York, and sister of Dr. Eugene Streim (predeceased) and surviving wife, Betty, of New York City.
Ms. Heller had four sons, Jon Heller (deceased) and wife Fifi, and surviving sons, Robert Heller and wife June of Knoxville, TN, Richard Heller and wife Andrea of Salem, SC, and Dr. Gary Heller and fiancé Melissa of Atlanta, GA; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Heller was an active member of the Kingsport community for over 70 years working with the hospital auxillary, participating in PTA and school volunteer work. She and her husband, Joe Heller, worked with the organization of Ridgefield's Country Club, The Kingsport Symphony, and many other organizations in the Kingsport area.
Harriet was very active in the organization and operation of the Jewish Temple B'Nai Sholom located in Blountville, TN, serving on many committees, and as the first woman president of the congregation.
In 2008, Harriet left her residence on Fairidge Dr. and moved to Clemson Downs in Clemson, SC, to be near her son. Most recently, she has been residing at the Sterling House in Central, SC, to receive treatment for her progressive Alzheimer's condition.
Harriet will be missed by family and friends alike.
Burial will be in Bristol, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
