Harry Tate Beckner, 98, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Baysmont following a period of declining health. Born in Johnson City, TN on February 24, 1921, a son of the late James L. and Anna Phipps Beckner, he had resided in this area his entire life. He graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1943. Harry retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1981 having worked in the Industrial Relations Division. He was a member and past board member of the Literacy Council of Kingsport, a member and past president of the Humane Society of Greater Kingsport, communicant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a past board member of John Hay House.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, James I. Beckner.
He is survived by a number of cousins and his caregiver, Mary Morelock.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jonathan Tuttle officiating. Inurnment will follow services in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 161 E. Ravine St., Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the Humane Society of Greater Kingsport, 2141 Idle Hour Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660.
