Hattie Kate Begley Harmon, 66, of Kingsport, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School and earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from ETSU. Hattie continued her education at Union College in Kentucky where she earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She was retired from the Sullivan County School System where she taught for many years.
Hattie was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. She loved her family, friends and church. Hattie will be remembered for her laughter and good humor. She enjoyed singing, cooking and traveling with her sisters and special friend, Virginia Walczak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Lillie Kilgore Begley; brother, Waymond L. Begley; and brother-in-law, Larry M. Hixson.
Survivors include two sisters, Henrietta B. Hixson, Kingsport and Helen K. Begley, Altamonte Springs, Florida; sister-in-law, Peggy Begley, Kingsport; nephews, Michael B. Hixson, Mark W. Hixson and wife Tammy, and David C. Hixson; niece, Susan M. Lance and husband Michael; great-nephews, Dustin and Christopher Hixson, and Joshua Lance; great-nieces, Angel Smith and Katie Lance; great-great-nephews, Matthew Spaugh, and Dylan Senn; and great-great-niece, Hannah Senn.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Mickey Rainwater officiating.
Graveside services will be held at noon Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
