Hattie Ruth Byington Whitlock, 98, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010 at Wexford House.

Mrs. Whitlock, known to many as "Mamaw Whitlock", was born and has lived all her life in Mt. Carmel. Mrs. Whitlock was mainly a mother and homemaker, but in 1944 she worked for Holston Ordinance to support the war effort and her son. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, gardening and quilting. She was a former member of the Mt. Carmel and Church Hill Senior Citizens Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ed and Kate Byington; husband: Lee Whitlock; two daughters: Janice Steadman and Ilene Whitlock; sister: Maggie Rutledge; brother: Buck Byington; granddaughter: Dr. Brenda Churchill and her sister-in-law: Dovie Whitlock.

Surviving are two daughters: Velma Odle and husband, Dick of Nickelsville, VA; Betty Leeper of Kingsport; son: Roy E. Whitlock and wife Sarah, Huntington Woods, MI.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; nephew: Paul Rutledge; special nieces: Carolyn Light and Dorothy Sams.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes in Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. George Odle officiating. Music will be provided by The Gethsemane Quartet.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Odle, Johnny Odle, Matthew Odle, Adam Odle, Allen Davis and Jeremy Steadman; Honorary Pallbearers are Raymond Whitlock, Johnny Castle, Steve Ballman and Paul Rutledge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church Hill Rescue Squad at 351 West Main Blvd., Church Hill, TN. 37642.
