Hazel Ruth Crigger, 73, of Kingsport, died Friday morning December 18, 2009 at Brookhaven Manor after a brief illness. Born in Hawkins County, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. Ruth was a homemaker and attended Praise Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bennie Hutchins; parents, Charlie and Tennessee Simpson; stepmother, Dorothy Simpson; sister, Virginia Elizabeth Surcey; and brother, Charles James Simpson.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Daniel Jeff Crigger of the home; a son, Michael Steven Simpson and wife Nina of Kingsport; grandchildren, Brandon Simpson, Misty Holly, Cody Goff, and Chestney Trask; four great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter, Brieanna Allen; sisters, Virgil Mae Jobe of Church Hill, Lillian Sexton of Kingsport, Marselene Hooven of Mt. Carmel, Ilene Huffman of Kingsport, and Barbara Brummitt, also of Kingsport; brothers, George Simpson, Gale Simpson, and Terry Simpson, all of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, and anytime at the home of Ruth's son.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, with Pastor Bob Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Pactolus Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
