Hazel Marie Draughn

Hazel Marie Draughn, 97, of Mount Carmel, passed away and went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 14, 2024. Born and raised in this area, she later moved to Tampa for 25 years before returning to this area to care for her parents. Hazel was reserved, intelligent and extremely independent. She loved working outdoors in her yard, continuing to mow her own yard well into her 80’s and canning what she grew in the garden. Hazel was a great cook, loved baking and always made good food. Her love for crocheting was evident in the 45+ Afghans she made; her daughter would send her boxes of yarn, and she would use it all.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Draughn; son, Howard Draughn; daughter, Carolyn Draughn; parents, Mary and Worley Clifton; sister, Jean Cox.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris Milburn and husband, Richard; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl Clifton and James Clifton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ryan Shaffer officiating. Graveside services will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
