Hazel Geraldine Laster

Hazel Geraldine "Gerry" Laster, 82, Church Hill, formerly of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, Monday, June 24th at her daughter's residence surrounded by her loving family.

Gerry was born July 10, 1930, in Hawkins County, TN, to the late Sneed Helton and Alpha Pennington Helton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Genis Lee Laster, and her significant other of 10 years, Walter Bagley. She was also preceded in death by her special friends Charlsie and Franklin Johnson.

Gerry was a homemaker and was formerly employed by ITT Technology, Northern Electric, and by Waverly Road Presbyterian Church in the nursery for over 19 years.

She was well known for her love for all the children that she kept in the nursery over all those years.

Gerry was very special to many people, but none more than her family.

She was a former member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Carmel, and a member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.

Gerry is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Crawford and husband, Robert of Fall Branch, TN, and Chris Wheelock of Kingsport; two sons, David and Ruth Laster of Ellenwood, Georgia, and Hershel and Diane Laster of Lyons, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Michelle Triantafyllidis, Jennifer Moore, Anna Laster, Tori Laster, Chasity Nofziger, Crystal O'Donnell, Matthew Wheelock and Lesha Wheelock; great-grandchildren, Brandon Guerra, Gryphon Moore, Taven Moore, Annabell O'Donnell, Jacob Nofziger, Charlie Nofziger, Brianna Jenkins; four sisters, Phoeba McCown of Stoney, Alabama, Eve Mae Hamm of Sumpter, SC, Faye Koslow of Kingsport, and Kaye Doran and husband, Bucky of Church Hill; three brothers, Troy Helton and wife Margaret of Manassas Park, VA, Everett Helton and wife, Madeline of Kingsport, and Phil Helton of Edgerton, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, with Pastor Dan Clark officiating and Brother Andy Coffman officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, in Church Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Bucky Doran, Leon Doran, Hershel Laster, David Laster, Everett Helton, Matthew Wheelock, Bob Crawford, John Young.
