Helen Cullop Bachman

Helen Cullop Bachman, 97 of Kingsport was taken into the arms of Jesus on Sunday (May 4, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a sudden illness.

Helen was born in Marion, Va. She received a teaching certificate at Concord College and taught children in Beckley, West Virginia. She moved to Kingsport to assist her brother Clarence with his newborn daughter, Jean after the death of his wife. She married Harry Bachman in 1939. Helen was a substitute teacher in the Sullivan County school system for many years as well as being a PTA President. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Pilot Club.

She loved Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and her church family. She taught first and second grade Sunday school for more than 60 years which enabled her to touch three generations of families. She loved the Lord and served Him throughout her life. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Melinda Broyles Cullop, five brothers, five sisters, and her husband, Harry Bachman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill Bachman and wife Pam, grandson, Jerod Bachman, and six nieces Jean (Joe) Burke, Linda Selby, Sharon Shoemaker, Layna (Dave) Steuerwald, Nancy (Richard) Warren, and Carolyn Watts.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church in Sullivan Gardens. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Rhonda K. Hobbs and Rev. J. Russell Taylor officiating.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014, at East Lawn Memorial Park, Christus Garden. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Burke, Carl Childress, Jim Cline, Earl Humber, Jerry Morrell, Jim Shoemaker, Parker Trent, Richard Warren, and Tom Zollman.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her loving caregivers, Teresa McAmis and Ann Gregg. They were her angels. Special thanks also for the care of Dr. David Franzus and his staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, 3200 Glen Alpine Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660.
