Helen Margaret Ferguson

Helen Margaret Ferguson, 83, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

Helen was always a sponsor for church youth trips. She had a great love for people, especially young people. For 30 years she worked in the church camp and taught knitting and crocheting at the 4H Club. Through the extension service and English as a second language, Helen also taught knitting to ladies and young girls. She was President of the PTA for the elementary and middle school from 1963 to 1970. In 1967 she served as housing coordinator for the National Missionary Convention. Helen was a cub scout den mother. She travelled to Haiti on a mission's trip to help build a church and a school. After moving to Wellington Place, Helen was considered an ambassador as she helped new people feel at home and adjust. She loved to travel and was an assistant coach for Bible Bowl. She was a willing servant in any church she attended. At Colonial Heights Christian Church, she worked with the food ministry and on mission committees.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Elburn G. Ferguson and her brother, James Seward.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Ferguson (Cherie); daughter, Mary Hawes (Timothy); and son, David Ferguson (Beth); grandchildren, Treva Ferguson, Christopher Ferguson, Joel Ferguson, Margaret Houk, and Courtney Hawes; great-granddaughter, Caroline McKenzie Houk; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The memorial service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday at Colonial Heights Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Heights Christian Church for Missions or the Food Pantry, 105 Meadow Lane, Kingsport, TN 37663.
