Helen Vetrice Good, 75, Kingsport, died at 9 p.m. Saturday August 15, 2009 at her home.
The daughter of Roy and Juanita Paxton Good, she was born in Dayton, OH and came to Tennessee at an early age. She attended Sullivan High School in Kingsport.
After completing cosmetology school, she moved back to Dayton, Ohio, where she worked for a few years. Helen returned to Tennessee where she spent the remainder of her life.
A member of Sullivan Baptist Church in Kingsport, she was a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, and was active in most of the activities of her church as long as she could attend.
In 1993 she suffered a massive stroke and was a shut-in the remainder of her life. She accepted her illness in such a loving and graceful way and was an inspiration to all who visited her. It was her wish to thank everyone for their visits, good deeds, gifts, and prayers during her long years of illness.
Thanks to all the nurses who helped take care of her. Every act of kindness and love was appreciated.
Preceding her in death were her father, Roy D. Good; brother, Roy Good, Jr. of Houston, TX; two aunts, Viva Hayes of Fall Branch, TN, and Hazel Reynolds of Greeneville, TN and Dayton, OH; three uncles, Roy Paxton of Alcoa, TN, Phillip Paxton of IA, and Bill Paxton of FL; first cousins, J.T. Hayes and Orlan Hayes of Chuckey, TN, Odus Hayes of Fall Branch, and Don Reynolds of MI; and one very special friend, Steve Ostopyak of Dayton, OH.
Survivors include her mother, Juanita Paxton Good of Fall Branch; several first cousins and their spouses, Mary and Dick Watrous of FL, Janet and Don Mahraun of IA, Bobby Shaw of Greeneville, TN, Wanda and Paul Bragg of Kingsport, who were her caregivers and precious friends during the last years of her life, Kenneth and Charlotte Paxton of Alcoa, TN, Ronald and Dana Paxton of Seattle, WA, Mike and Carolyn Paxton of Nashville, TN, Jack and Peggy Hayes of Fall Branch, Bob Paxton of HI, and special friend, Zada Richards.
Helen donated her body to ETSU Medical Center for research.
Family will receive friends 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch. Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.
