Helen Shoemaker, 75, of Kingsport, is now safe in the arms of Jesus. She went to be with her Lord Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after heart complications. Born in Sullivan County, where she resided all of her life, Helen was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a 60 year member of Greenvale Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ona Smith, and brother, Ronald Smith.
Helen is survived by her husband, Herman Shoemaker, of the home; three sons, Donnie Shoemaker of Kingsport, David Shoemaker and wife, Karen of Trenton, MI and Darrell Shoemaker and wife, Christy of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Bradley Shoemaker and fiancée Melissa Jennings, Matthew Shoemaker and wife, Danielle, Lauren Shoemaker, Ryan Shoemaker, Karlie Shoemaker and Kaylie Shoemaker; two great-grandchildren, Kamden and Kaylee; and special friend, Eva Johnson of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 4-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Harold Shoemaker and Dr. Cecil Sturgill officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 am at Morrison Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Shoemaker, C.L. Shoemaker, Nile Shoemaker, Bradley Shoemaker, Matthew Shoemaker and Ryan Shoemaker. Honorary pallbearer will be Kyle Shoemaker.
