Helen Langtim Vogel

Helen Langtim Vogel passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Helen was born in St. Joseph, MO. She married Gilbert Vogel in 1946 after WWII ended. They were married for 63 years, until Gilbert's death in 2009.

Helen and Gilbert moved to Kingsport in 1995 to be close to their only son, Ernie, and his family. Ernie, Julie, Greg, Alina and Matthew will be forever grateful that their "Grandma and Grandpa" made that difficult move across the country. It resulted in many happy family times together. Helen's pride and joy were her three grandchildren and by them she will be sorely missed.

She was a faithful member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church and particularly enjoyed Meeting Room Sunday School Class friends. Through her life Helen was known by her impeccable needlework. She was an accomplished seamstress, embroiderer and quilter. For many years she has been a member of the Exchange Place Quilters Guild.

Helen was preceded in death by her dear husband, Gilbert Ernest Vogel; an infant son in 1953; her father, Walter Frederick Langtim; her mother, Matilda Langtim; a sister, Doris Langtim Donnelly; a brother, John Frederick Langtim; and a nephew, David William Langtim.

She is survived by her son, Ernie Vogel, her daughter-in-law, Julie Vogel, and their three children, Greg, Alina and Matthew, all of Kingsport. Helen is also survived by a beloved sister-in-law, Shirley Jean Langtim of Atlanta, GA; nieces, Gretchen Gayle Basen of Sun Valley, ID, and Shirley Marie Shelby of Indiana; and nephew, Tom Donnelly, also of Indiana.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Daniel S. Clark officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary following the service.
