Henry Connor Barkley, 61, of Kingsport, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 3, 2011.

Connor was born February 10, 1950 in Gastonia, NC to H.C. and Dorothy Wallis Barkley. He was a graduate of Ashley High School in Gastonia, NC and Western Carolina University in 1972. Connor began his career with Catalytic Inc., in Charlotte and in 2003 relocated to Kingsport to work at Eastman Chemical Company in the Worldwide Engineering and Construction Division. He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church.

Connor will be greatly missed by Deborah Barkley, his wife of 38 years; his son, Jason Connor Barkley Susan of Charlotte, NC; daughter Lora Padula Robert of Wilmington, NC; son John Michael Barkley Retta of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Anna Grace Padula, John Connor Padula and Stellan Henry Barkley; brother Mark Barkley Jane of Winston-Salem, NC; aunt Dot Bogucki of Gastonia, NC and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Friday at Emory United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Hickman, Rev. Lee Nichols, and Pastor Ray Amos, Jr. officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Sardis Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Charlotte, NC Saturday May 7, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. J. Thomas Kort officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Emory United Methodist Church, 425 Emory Church Rd., Kingsport, TN 37664 or to Sardis Presbyterian Church Youth Ministries, 6100 Sardis Rd., Charlotte, NC 28270.
