Henry Ford Gober, Jr., 85, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday September 19, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Gainesville, GA, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Masters in Chemistry and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Henry served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He taught Chemistry at the University of Georgia, where he met and married Joan Davis in 1948. They moved to Kingsport 1949. Mr. Gober was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Gober was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and numerous civic organizations in and around Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Davis Gober; parents, Henry Ford Gober, Sr. and Nancy Cleo Gober; and sister, Mary Cleo Myrick.
Surviving are his daughter, Nancy Gober, Kingsport; sons, William H. Gober, Sr. and wife, Shelia, Collierville, TN, and James R. Gober, Kingsport; and grandchildren, Ashley G. Stowers and husband, John, Knoxville, Bradley J. Brand and girlfriend, Stephanie Wathen, Fort Myers, FL, William H. Gober, Jr., Knoxville, and Bethany Joann Brand, Kingsport.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2:30 p.m with Rev. Jack P. Weikel and Rev. Valena Manley Hoy officiating.
Entombment services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites provided by VFW post #4933.
Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
