Henry John Wouters "Hank", age 77 of New Baltimore, and former longtime resident of Warren, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Hank was born March 27, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Bernard Norbert Wouters and the late Marian (nee: Dole) Wouters. He graduated from Nativity Catholic High School in Detroit followed by a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Detroit. He was employed for over 24 years as a supervisor with General Motors until his retirement.
Hank enjoyed an active lifestyle. He was an accomplished athlete, and later enjoyed watching his children and grandchildrens sporting events. Hank was also the consummate volunteer. He was a member of the Fr. Kramer Knights of Columbus, General Motors Mens Club, St. Clement Dads Club and Michigan Special Olympics. When his son, Christopher was tragically killed in the line of duty, Hank became very involved with Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors.
During his life, he achieved many awards and accolades for his abilities and service to others, being recognized by the Catholic League Hall of Fame, the General Motors Mens Club, St. Clement Church and the Knights of Columbus for his tireless volunteer efforts. However, Hank was a humble man who chose to cherish his family time above everything else. He savored the memories of golfing, traveling, cruising, skiing, and planning the many outings with his family.
Hank is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Janice (nee: VanAcker). He is the loving father of Hank (Doris), Elizabeth, Margaret (Michael) Cyplik, Paul (Lori), Kenneth (Nancy), Nancy (Frank) Kapral, Carole (Larry) Garner, and the late Christopher Wouters. Father in-law of Val Wouters-Seagram. Devoted grandfather of 26. Great grandfather of 4. Brother of Catherine (Arnold) Marion (the late George) Treppa, Barbara (the late Bob) Krause, Bernie (Carole) Wouters. He is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.
