Herbert Creech, 80, of Kingsport, heard the greatest words ever spoken, "Well done good and faithful servant" when he was called home Wednesday, May 25, 2016. A native of Coeburn, VA, he had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Herb proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the time of the Korean War. He received his Bachelor's degree from Tusculum College. Herb invested his life in young people by coaching baseball for many years. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and the TN Vols. Herb retired from Holston Defense with more than 30 years of service. After retirement, he spent many years in service to others. Herb made many trips to Mexico building homes through the Mexico Housing Ministry. He then served as the Central Region Consultant for the Holston Conference Labor Program. Herb was an active member of Glen Alpine UMC and a student of God's Word. His heart and desire was to serve and further the message of Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Carol Creech; his parents, John and Georgia Creech; brothers, William Creech and Carl Creech; sisters, Louise Counts, Edith Sexton, Virginia Creech, and Betty McBride; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Herb is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Barbara Creech; daughter, Robin Lingerfelt and husband, Mike; two sons, Greg Creech and wife, Dory, and Andy Creech and wife, Luci; five grandchildren, Christy Free and husband, Travis, Jamie Creech and wife, Jenna, Matthew Creech and wife, Kara, Drew Creech, and Cari Creech; four great-grandchildren, Parker, Hayden, and Maddox Free and Cooper Creech; three step-daughters, Terri English and husband, Rob, Cindy Bledsoe and husband, Terry, and Becky Russell and husband, Brad; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth English and husband, Jacob Alfar, Holly English, Audrey and Nolen Bledsoe, and Preston, Hannah, and Mattie Russell; sister, Mildred Pickel and husband LeeRoy; brother, Bob Creech and wife, Sue; sister-in-law, Patty Larkin and husband, Johnny; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those who plan to attend are asked to join the family at 1:45 p.m. at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. A Celebration of his life will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Rhonda Hobbs officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Creech, Matthew Creech, Drew Creech, Travis Free, Preston Russell, and Nolan Bledsoe.
