Herbert Hoover Dickenson

Herbert Hoover Dickenson, 78, of Jonesborough, went to be with the Lord at 10:40 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in the Cracker?s Neck section of Big Stone Gap, VA and retired from Harper Woods High School in Michigan as a custodian.

Mr. Dickenson was a member of Lighthouse Church of Fall Branch. His family and music were his passion and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Cornie Bell Dickenson; three brothers, Ewing, Clyde, and Frank; three sisters, Blanche, Della, and Ruth; and one grandson, David Jr.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Polly Dickenson of Jonesborough; three daughters, Kahlida Head and husband Michael; Denise Lawhon and husband Robert, all of Jonesborough; Elizabeth Carson and husband Bill, St. Clair Shores, MI; eight sons, Tony Dickenson and wife Cathy, Spring Hill, TN; Michael Dickenson and wife Krystal, Sterling Heights, MI; David Dickenson and wife Karen, Harrison Township, MI; Steven Dickenson and wife Deborah, Shelby, MI; Timothy Dickenson and wife Nancy, St. Clair Shores, MI; Hollis Dickenson and wife Lauri, Matthews, NC; Mark Dickenson and wife Amanda, Wingate, NC; and Kevin Dickenson, Kannapolis, NC; twenty-three grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Bruder and husband Edward, Warren, MI; one brother, Herman Dickenson, Big Stone Gap, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Special thanks to Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center ICU & Palliative, and Wilcox Hall Staff for their special love and care.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Services will follow at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Thomas officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Tony Dickenson, Michael Dickenson, David Dickenson, Steven Dickenson, Timothy Dickenson, Hollis Dickenson, Mark Dickenson, and Kevin Dickenson.
