Herbert E. Parris, 78, Kingsport, died at 9:00 a.m. Friday at his home due to an apparent heart attack.
Herbert was born in Kingsport where he resided for most of his life. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and ETSU. Herbert served in the U. S. Army, attaining the rank of Sgt. First Class. He was an employee of Kingsport Press, retiring after 33 years of service.
Herbert was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Paul Parris and Sula Mae Addington Britts; wife, Marie F. Peters Parris; and a sister, Pauline Parris Castle.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Patricia Rene Barnthouse and husband, Dr. Larry Barnthouse of Knoxville, TN; stepson, Larry Fraysier and wife, Arvinia of Kingsport; stepmother, Lettie Parris of East Lake Weir, FL; brother, Donald Lee Parris of Kingsport, TN; and half-brother, Tony Parris of Ocala, FL.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating.
