Herman L. Babb

Herman L. Babb, 81, of Fall Branch, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at NHC Health Care in Johnson City, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Washington County, TN, on December 25, 1932, a son of the late George and Fanny Bailey Babb, and step-mother, Fannie Payne Babb, he had resided in Fall Branch for his entire life.

Herman accepted Chrst at age 72. His life gave testimony to his contentment in his circumstances especially in his later years, and the gentle peace of God was so evident in his life.

He was a farmer and tractor mechanic working for Modern Equipment in Johnson City for 20 years.

Herman is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Babb, of Kingsport; daughter, Suzanne Nelson and husband, Larry, of Kingsport; grandson, Dustin Nelson and wife, Becca, of Kingsport; great-grandson, Dylan Nelson, of Kingsport; and cousins, Joe Huffman, of Jonesborough, Barbara Wright, of Telford, Willie Hilbert, Sammy Hilbert, and Joe Hilbert, all of Jonesborough.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of NHC Healthcare and Caris Healthcare for the care they extended to Herman with dignity and compassion. They would also like to thank family, friends, and their church family at Tri-Cities Baptist Church for all their support and help during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Hamlett-Dobson, Fall Branch. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Rick Roop, Dr. Scott Walters, and Dr. Daniel Broyles officiating. Special music will be provided by Jane Walker, Soloist.

The graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014, at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Jonesborough. Those attending committal services are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:00 p.m. and then proceed to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tim Hicks, Jacob Rogers, Daryl Hicks, Bill Willis, Bill Noe, and Paul Stemac. Dale Barnes will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Cities Baptist Church, 171 Promise Land Dr., Gray, TN 37615, designated to the Tri-Cities Leader Training Program through Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
