Herman ?Hal? Block of the Jearoldstown Community died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long struggle with diabetes and its complications.
Mr. Block was 85 years old on February 6, 2007. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and resided there until moving to Wisconsin and in 2000 coming to the Jearoldstown community. Hal was a commercial artist, was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, and attended Jearoldstown United Methodist Church. He will certainly be missed by the entire congregation.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Yetta Wieburg and Benjamin Block; and a sister, Mildred.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Jones Block; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Renee Block and Kenneth and Eva Block, Chicago, Illinois; three grandchildren, Vanessa, Marina, and Matthew; a sister, Ruth Hyman, Oregon; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Lizzie and John Fox, Richard Bowers, and the entire congregation of Jearoldstown United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Jearoldstown United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Richard Bowers officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military rites by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W.
