Hester Lee Broome Jones, 95, Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, after several years of declining health.
She was born September 30, 1913, in Blacksburg, South Carolina. After moving to Kingsport in the late 1930s, she met and married Wilson Jones. Hester was a loving wife, mother and caregiver. She had a love for sewing and baking. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her father, Horace Broome; mother and stepfather, Bertha and Joseph Morrow; husband, Wilson Jones; sisters, Clara Daniels, Irene Blakely, Virginia Sparks; and brothers, Robert Broome, Ralph Broome and Charles Morrow.
Surviving are one daughter, Jackie Gilbert and husband Harold; one son, David Jones; two grandsons, Blaine and Michael Gilbert; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb Gilbert and Kloe Gilbert; one brother, Paul Morrow and wife Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Holston Manor and Cindy with Amedisys Hospice.
Receiving of family and friends will be Friday from 10:30 am - 12:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Donnie Brannen and Rev. T. Richard Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Friends will serve as pallbearers.
