Hobart "Sam" Steffey, 69, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, after a brief illness.
He graduated from Sullivan High School. He joined the U.S. Army after high school. Sam was a very talented carpenter and framer. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded by his father and biological mother, George and Nellie Casteel Steffey; and his son, Jason Steffey.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Heather Steffey; his mother, Nannie Parsons Steffey; siblings, James Wendell Steffey (Tammie), Manuel Steffey (Carolyn), Martha Pendley (Mike), Randall Steffey, Ronald Steffey (Susan), and Lester Steffey (Phyllis); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center ER and ICU staff, especially Lisa Jones, and also to Sam's brother, Lester for taking such great care of him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 to 6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim Jarrett and Rev. Johnny Gordon officiating.
The graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at Holston View Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by The American Legion Posts 3/265. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
