Homer T. Bacon, 76, of Church Hill, after struggling with his illness with dignity and courage, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 25.
Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, Homer was the first of three children born to Samuel Paul and Edna Trivette Bacon. He spent his childhood and youth on the family farm in Harmony Community. As an adult Homer spent twenty-two years proudly serving his country with honor in the United States Army, including two tours of duty in Viet Nam in 1968 and 1971. During the first of several assignments in Germany he met and married his wife, Hilde, to whom he was married for more than fifty-four years. They were stationed in Europe and various state-side locations until his retirement. Thereafter they made their home in Harmony Community for over thirty years, moving to Church Hill in 2004.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents and his young nephew, Ashley Moody. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Hilde, along with daughter Carmen Wilson and husband, Andy of Church Hill, and son Joey Bacon and wife, Barbara of Kingsport. Also mourning are sister Bobbie Moody and husband, G.C. of Gray; brother Bill Bacon and wife, Marge, of Harmony Community; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a niece and three nephews along with their families; and special cousins June Whittamore and husband, Maurice of Johnson City, and Edith Ferguson of Fall Branch.
The family will be receiving friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 11:00, with Pastor Jamey Reynolds officiating.
Burial will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #3/265.
