Homer "Sonny" Cox

Homer Cox, 66, Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Homer graduated from Sullivan High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was an avid UT fan and enjoyed life to the fullest. He retired after 27 years at Eastman Chemical Company, where he worked in the Tenite Department. Homer participated in the Community Watch Program at Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. Burl and Mary Elize Cox and Paul and Verdie Ray.

Homer is survived by his parents, Homer B. and Virginia Cox; sister, Judy Ferguson; brother, David Cox and wife Marsha, all of Kingsport; nieces and nephews, Rusty Ferguson, Rhonda Suthers and Nathan Cox; and best friend, Tony.

The family extends a special thanks to his caregiver, Helen Raymond and his doctors, Dr. Louthan, Dr. Malik and nurses, Sarah, Michelle and Grace in ICU at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 22nd, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Ferguson, Joey Cox, Nathan Cox and Dale Gilliam.
