Howard Joe Dodson

Howard Joe Dodson, 83, of Kingsport, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Wexford House.

Born in Dunbar, VA, Howard attended schools in Sullivan County and worked at Eastman Kodak. He moved to Houston, TX and worked for Rohn & Haas, retiring after 34 years of service. Howard worked alongside his wife at the Salvation Army in Houston. He moved back to Kingsport in 1991 and was a member of the American Legion. Howard was an avid fisherman and loved gardening and hunting.

As a young man, he received Jesus as his Savior and Lord and it is a comfort to the family to know he is in the arms of the Lord in his eternal home. Howard was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingsport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry J. Dodson and Julie Whittemore Dodson; stepmother, Isabelle Cavin Dodson; infant daughter, Lisa Ann Dodson; sisters, Mary D. Ketron and husband Oscar Ketron, Ruth D. Herron and Phyllis D. Hughes; and two nephews, George Billy Herron and Billy Ketron.

Howard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Dodson; two brothers, Ralph E. Dodson and wife Gladys of Surgoinsville, Virgil Jack Dodson and wife Pat of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. Ron Davis officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Andrew Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660; or to the charity of one's choice.
