Howard G. Hamblen, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at Asubry Place, Maryville.
He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and retired from Tennessee Eastman with 40 years service.
Mr. Hamblen was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Steadman Hamblen. He was the son of the late Charlie and Blannie Hamblen of Kingsport, Tennessee. His sister, Joan Hood also preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Roger Campbell, Maryville, TN; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Diana Hamblen, Knoxville, TN; Sam and Dianne Hamblen, Oak Ridge, TN; Harry and Sheila Hamblen, Clermont, FL; grandchildren, Chris and Tina Hamblen, Franklin, TN; Leslie and Patrick Spence, Nashville, TN; Elizabeth Hamblen, Chattanooga, TN; and Sarah Hamblen, Knoxville, TN; five great-granddaughters, Madeline, Claire and Sophie Hamblen, and Camille and Hope Spence.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Depew's Chapel Cemetery in Kingsport, TN with military rites by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW. Following the service, the family will receive friends from 3 until 6 p.m. at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, Kingsport, TN.
Honorary pallbearers will be Corky Steadman, Joe Steadman, Mark Steadman, Jeff Steadman, Jimmy Steadman, and Bob J. Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 with Revs. Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church's fellowship hall.
