Howard H. Sams, Jr., 55, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 1, 2007, at his home.
He was an active member, treasurer, and trustee at Orebank Chapel Central Baptist Church. Howard served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a friend to everyone he met and enjoyed auctions, antiques, and NASCAR.
Preceding him in death were his father, Howard H. Sams, Sr.; two brothers, Raymond Sams, Michael Sams; a sister, Virginia Carlene Poore; and a nephew, Mark Roberts.
Surviving are his wife, Dinah Sams, Kingsport; two daughters, Rose Sams, Washington, Brittany Sams, Kingsport; three sons, Kenneth Sams, Washington, Michael Sams, Washington, and Nathan Sams, Kingsport; two grandchildren; a special adopted grandchild, Jaila Dunn; his mother, Rosa Sams; two sisters, Peggy Riggs, Kingsport, and Mary Norton and husband, Ed, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and special friends at Kay?s Restaurant.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Orebank Chapel Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Lelbert Thornburg and Elder Mikey Joe Fields officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Hill Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #3/265.
