Howard Jackson Wolfe, 87, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on October 22, 2008, after a long illness. He was born on October 19, 1921, to Nannie Jane Love and Ballard Jackson Wolfe in Clinchport, VA, where he grew up and married Verna Lawson. Howard served in the U. S. Army during World War II. When he returned home, he worked as a coal miner until retirement. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America, a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, and attended Pine View Freewill Baptist Church for over twenty years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae Wolfe; his parents; sisters Anna Burke, Edith Arnold, Monnie Lane, Portia Tate, Allie Marshall, and an infant brother, L. C. Wolfe.
He is survived by two daughters, Bettie Beane, and Linda Fugate and husband Scotty; grandchildren Joe Combs and wife Kelly, Dawn Beane, Misty Flanary and husband Bobby; great-grandchildren Nick Combs, Madison Combs, Anna Flanary, and Matthew Flanary; a sister, June Slater; brother-in-law, Walter Marshall, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jack Morelock and Rev. Steve Alley officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
